GLOBAL FUTURE SCHOLARSHIP 2024-25

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

The English language requirements for our courses are provided on individual course pages as minimum IELTS scores, however we accept many other tests and qualifications.

Undergraduate Entry Requirements

Applicants from Belgium can apply for direct entry onto Birkbeck’s undergraduate degrees; a Diploma van Secundair Onderwijs or Diploma van de Hogere Secundaire Technische (Dutch speakers), a Abschlusszeugnis der Oberstufe des Sekundarunterrichts (German speakers), or a Diplôme d'Aptitude à Accéder à l'Enseignement Supérieur or Certificat d'Enseignement Secondaire Supérieur (French speakers) is required.

Applicants with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or A-levels will be considered for direct admission to our undergraduate degree programmes. IB requirements range from 28 to 30, depending on the course. A-level requirements are shown below:

  • A-level AAA = 144 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer (10-point) 8 = comparable offer (20-point) 18
  • A-level AAB = 136 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer (10-point) 8 = comparable offer (20-point) 17
  • A-level ABB = 128 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer (10-point) 7 = comparable offer (20-point) 16
  • A-level BBB = 120 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer (10-point) 7 = comparable offer (20-point) 15
  • A-level BBC = 112 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer (10-point) 6 = comparable offer (20-point) 14
  • A-level BCC = 104 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer (10-point) 6 = comparable offer (20-point) 13
  • A-level CCC = 96 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer (10-point) 5 = comparable offer (20-point) 12.

Postgraduate Entry Requirements

Applicants from Belgium who hold a good Licence (French-speaking)/Licentiaat (Dutch-speaking) or a Bachelor’s degree (post-2005) are eligible for entry onto a Master’s degree.

Relevant work experience may also be considered for students whose GPAs are slightly below the preferred requirements.

If you do not meet these criteria, you can apply for OnCampus' Master's Foundation programme, which is available for two- or three-term progression onto a wide range of Master’s degrees at Birkbeck.

Belgian degree classification:

  • 80% (alternative name: Avec grande distinction/met grootste onderscheiding; English translation or equivalent: With great distinction = 1st)
  • 70% (alternative name: Avec distinction/met onderscheiding; English translation or equivalent: With distinction = 2:1)
  • 60% (alternative name: Avec satisfaction/met voldoening; English translation or equivalent: With satisfaction = 2:2).

Research degrees Entry Requirements

For entry onto our research degree courses students should normally have Master’s degree (since 2004) or a Diplômé d'Etudes Approfondie/Diploma van Grondige Studies. However, schools may also accept students with high grades in the Bachelor’s degree (since 2004) or the Licencié /Licenciaat.
