Goals

Our vision is to draw on what will almost certainly be the largest interdisciplinary concentration of active researchers in citizenship, citizenship education and related areas anywhere in the world. The Centre has strong relationships with colleagues from all Schools, Faculties and Units within Birkbeck and the Institute working within the area of citizenship. The Centre is also well-placed in its position within the Bloomsbury consortium, the University of London and our central geographical location in London. This includes collaboration with government departments including the Department for Education and Skills, (DfES), Department for Communities, the Home Office, the Teaching and Development Agency (TDA) and the NGO sector. In addition, the Co-directors and members of the Centre have extensive national and international networks with academics internationally, and with international organisations such as the Council of Europe, European Commission and UNESCO.
