Eligibility to Work in the UK
In order to verify your eligibility to work in the UK you will be required to produce a document which demonstrates you are either a national from a European Economic Area (EEA) country or Switzerland, or are a Non-EEA national who has acquired the right to work in the UK.
EEA Nationals
Nationals from all EEA countries, and Switzerland, will be required to produce a document showing their nationality. This will usually be either a national passport or national identity card. Some nationals from EEA countries may also produce a residence permit issued by the Home Office which confirms their right to reside and work here. You will need to produce one original document from List A.
There are currently 30 countries in the European Economic Area (EEA):

Bulgaria and Romania joined the EEA on 1 January 2007. Nationals from these countries must obtain an Accession Worker Authorisation document from the Home Office before starting work in the UK, unless they are exempt. Further details are available from the UK Border Agency.
In addition, Croatia will join the EEA on 1 July 2013 however details on working rights are still to be announced, further details can be found here.
Non-EEA Nationals
Nationals from non-EEA countries will be required to produce a document which demonstrates they have acquired the right to work in the UK. You will need to produce one original document from the List B.
In addition to checking documents before you start employment, we will also carry out a follow-up check at least once every 12 months to ensure that you remain eligible to continue working in the UK. This is a UK Border Agency requirement.
