Criteria for successfully completing academic probation

4.1 In order to assess whether the probationer has successfully completed their academic probation, the Academic Probation Review Panel will assess each probationer’s overall performance using documentary evidence, supplied by the Executive Dean in consultation with the Assistant Dean, Probationary Advisor, against the following criteria.

4.1.1 Teaching

  1. Recognition as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (see paragraph 6.4)

  2. The probationer’s teaching will be assessed as satisfactory by the Executive Dean, in consultation with the Assistant Dean and Probationary Advisor.

4.1.2 Research

  1. Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent (as determined by the Executive Dean). In cases where the PhD thesis is about to be submitted, the Panel may recommend confirmation of appointment, subject to the successful completion of the degree by the beginning of the following academic session.

  2. Publications considered by the Panel to be of sufficient standing in the appropriate discipline, as advised by the Executive Dean, Probationary Advisor and Assistant Dean, e.g. holding a contract to publish a book or acceptance for publication in journals.

4.1.3 Management and Administration

  1. Satisfactory performance in management and administrative tasks as confirmed by the Executive Dean in consultation with the Assistant Dean and Probationary Advisor.

4.1.4 General Performance

  1. Satisfactory performance in the areas of teamwork, relationships with peers and students, communication skills, work quality and output and attendance as confirmed by the Executive Dean in consultation with the Assistant Dean and Probationary Advisor.
