4.0    Responsibilities

The following have responsibilities under this policy:

  • Line Managers
    • Where a request has been made for a market supplement, assess whether it is necessary.
    • Prepare a business case in conjunction with HR partner, to support market supplement.
    • Obtain endorsement for business case from Executive Dean, School Manager or Head of Professional Services as appropriate.
    • Monitor process and conduct a review meeting of the continued need for the market supplement.
    • Lead discussions with member of staff and HR partner, where a decision has been made to reduce or withdraw the market supplement.
  • Human Resources
    • Liaise with line manager during business case process.
    • Collate appropriate benchmarking data.
    • Monitor application of market supplements for equal opportunities implications.
    • Attend discussions with member of staff and line manager, where a decision has been made to reduce or withdraw the market supplement.
    • Following discussions above confirm outcome in writing to member of staff and line manager and log data.
    • Conduct review of market pay supplements policy in consultation with stakeholders and feed relevant monitoring data into future appropriate audit reviews.
  • Executive Dean, School Manager or Head of Professional Services
    • Endorse/reject business case for market pay supplement.
  • Director of Human Resources or Nominee
    • Approve and sign-off or reject business case for market supplement(s).
  • College Secretary or Nominee
    • Countersign market supplement for Teaching and Scholarship, Research, Professional and Support staff approved by Director of HR.
  • Master or Nominee
    • Countersign market supplement for Academic staff approved by Director of HR.
  • Members of Staff
    • On request, provide supporting evidence for market pay supplement business case.
    • Agree to abide by the terms governing the market supplement.
    • Attend discussions with line manager and a representative from HR following a review decision to reduce or withdraw the market supplement.
