Right of appeal
Employees have the right to appeal against their dismissal (i.e. non-renewal of their fixed-term contract). The appeal must be made in writing to the Director of Human Resources within 10 working days of receipt of the final notification letter. An appeal panel will be convened and will be chaired by a senior manager within the employee’s School or Professional Service Department, with a representative from Human Resources.
The employee may be accompanied to this meeting by a Birkbeck work colleague or a trade union representative.
The decision of the appeal panel will be final, and the outcome will be communicated to the individual within 5 working days of the meeting.
