Finding a supervisor

Before you apply for an MPhil/PhD degree, you will need to establish that one of our academics is able to provide appropriate supervision for your research.

Before applying, therefore, you should find out if any of our staff conduct research in a field related to your area of interest. For help with this you can:

Your supervisor will provide you with advice on your research and support throughout your research programme on topics including:

  • planning your thesis
  • the nature of research and the standards expected
  • the primary sources and secondary literature required to support the project
  • research techniques (including arrangements for instruction where necessary)
  • questions of originality, plagiarism and publication of research result.

To find out more about the support our supervisors offer, see our code of practice on research.
