Jon Davies

Jon Davies is an Associate Lecturer at Birkbeck, where he teaches the Intermediate Latin course. He also teaches a Masters class in Jewish history in the Hellenistic and Roman periods at Oxford. His work focuses on the Jewish experience of Roman rule in both Judaea and the Diaspora, and he has further interests in the Roman Near East more broadly, Greek and Latin historiography, and political expression and communication at Rome.

His recently-completed doctoral thesis combined several of these interests, investigating the way in which the first-century Roman-Jewish historian Flavius Josephus represents the Flavian imperial dynasty in his historical work The Jewish War.Jon Davies is an Associate Lecturer at Birkbeck, where he teaches the Intermediate Latin course.
