Dr Stuart Brookes
Stuart Brookes is Research Fellow at the UCL Institute of Archaeology and sessional lecturer for Birkbeck and Oxford University Department of Continuing Education.
He has worked on many field projects in Britain and abroad at sites as diverse as Stonehenge, Knaresborough Castle, St Vitus Cathedral in Prague and the Roman town of Arae Flaviae in southern Germany.
He is author of Economics and Social Change in Anglo-Saxon Kent AD 400-900, and is currently researching Late Anglo-Saxon civil defence on the Leverhulme-funded project Beyond the Burghal Hidage. He is particularly interested in comparative landscape studies and the archaeologies of state formation.
