HCA Fully Funded PhD Studentship

The Department of History, Classics and Archaeology (part of Birkbeck’s School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy) invites applications for a full-time, fully-funded departmental PhD studentship, commencing 3 October 2016. Research expertise within the Department stretches from antiquity to contemporary history, and we invite applications for any suitable topic. Applicants will normally have completed, or be about to complete, a Masters in history or a related discipline, with an achieved or predicted grade of Distinction; and have gained a First-class BA honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.

The award, which comes from a generous alumnus donation, will cover fees at Home/EU levels, and a maintenance grant in line with AHRC rates for the duration of three years (full-time students only). Applications from non-UK/EU nationals will be considered, but any such applicant would have to cover the differential between Home/EU and non-Home/EU student fees.

All applicants have to submit a studentship application form to the Research Student Administrator, Jana Comfort (j.comfort@bbk.ac.uk). In addition, applicants have to complete a postgraduate application form to gain a place on the MPhil/PhD programme of the Department of History, Classics and Archaeology. The deadline for all applications is 7 February 2016, with the studentship to be awarded in March 2016.

All prospective applicants are strongly advised to first make informal contact with a potential supervisor before submitting their application. Find more guidance on how to apply for the MPhil/PhD.

Potential candidates interested in applying for the MPhil/PhD programme should also note the wider range of other funding opportunities available through the Department, including further fully-funded PhD studentships offered by the School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy.
