The British Film Institute is currently celebrating the 50th anniversary of Satyajit Ray’s 1963 film, “The Big City” with a 2-month retrospective of all of Ray’s films and a special release of “The Big City” across cinemas in the UK.
The British Film Institute is currently celebrating the 50th anniversary of Satyajit Ray’s 1963 film, “The Big City” with a 2-month retrospective of all of Ray’s films and a special release of “The Big City” across cinemas in the UK. Simultaneously, New York’s famous DVD publisher, The Criterion Collection, has issued a restored version of “The Big City” on DVD and Blu-Ray. Professor Chandak Sengoopta of our Department, who is researching a new biography of Ray with the support of a Leverhulme Trust Major Research Fellowship, wrote the historical and contextual essay accompanying Criterion’s disc of “The Big City.” The essay is also available here:
