Compulsory study skills courses
All BA students must complete and pass three compulsory Level 4 courses to graduate. They are designed to give you the historian’s essential skills and prepare you for submitting the coursework that makes up your degree mark. The courses run only for part of each academic session and you will take one course in each of your first three years. They are assessed through attendance and coursework, on a pass/fail basis, so the mark does not affect your final degree result.
Attendance on these courses is compulsory. You will be automatically enrolled for the module, and the Department Administrator will email you the details of the dates and locations. The modules will appear on your confirmation of modules and on your personal timetable on My Birkbeck. Failure to attend at least 50% of the sessions for each module will result in a Fail grade. Students who miss or fail the relevant course for their year will be expected to repeat it the following year, in addition to completing all other requirements for the year.
