Dr Martin Dearne
Dr Martin J Dearne, Independent field archaeologist, Roman finds specialist, archaeological illustrator, monograph editor and Associate Lecturer in Classics and Archaeology at the Open University, was formerly Research Associate to the senior Professor of Archaeology at Sheffield University.
The author of four books, over 20 learned journal/monograph contributions and many excavation reports, he is British editor of the Lexicon of Greek and Roman Cities and Place Names in Antiquity. A member of the LAMAS archaeology committee and Research Director of the Enfield Archaeological Society, his research specialisms include Roman small towns, mining, fuels, cave use and finds, and he is currently directing ongoing excavations at a Roman small town, a Tudor royal palace and a Jacobean manor house.
