Accessing programme materials

(last updated 12 August 2011)

In addition to weekly class meetings, you will access programme materials through Birkbeck's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) known as the BLE (Bloomsbury Learning Environment, Bloomsbury being a consortium of universities sharing the virtual learning resource).  The BLE is our interface or electronic classroom, where you will access programme materials, download coursework, upload coursework submissions, access coursework feedback, communicate with your fellow students and tutors etc.

Your ITS account

To login to the BLE, you will need your IT Services username and password, which you should receive by email from the IT Services department after you have formally accepted a place on the programme.  The email is sent to the email address you provided on your application form.  Your ITS username and password are used not only to access the BLE, but also to enrol online and to access eLibrary resources.

Also in the ITS letter, you will be assigned a personal Birkbeck email address.  You can access your email account via Birkbeck's webmail system available from the 'Start webmail' link on the ITS web pages at http://www.bbk.ac.uk/its(where you can also find more information about ITS services, including electronic mail).

Login to BLE

Using your ITS username and password, you can login to the BLE from the GISc programme web pages  by clicking on the link, 'Login to BLE' (or set-up a bookmark to the BLE login page at http://www.ble.ac.uk).

By 23 September, you should find that you can login to the BLE and access the GISc modules that you have enrolled on for 2011-12

Birkbeck has created BLE tutorials that you may self-register for, available from the Course Catalogue section on the first screen after you login to the BLE.
