Timothy Newling Fieldwork Fund
A generous donation from a former student Mr Timothy J Newling has allowed us to establish a fund to provide students with financial assistance with fieldwork. It is the Donor’s intention that the gift be used to provide subsidy for students undertaking field work as part of their degree course.
From the start of the 2011/2012 academic year, at least one undergraduate and one postgraduate will each receive up to £500 towards the cost of the field work per year, until the fund has been run down. The funds may be awarded to a single student or split between two or three applicants, based upon the number of applications received in any given year and the strength of the applications. The money is not available for organised field classes or equipment.
Applicants should be enrolled on a BSc, or postgraduate (PhD, MPhil, or Master's degree) at the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Birkbeck College.
Applicants should complete the accompanying application form and return it to the Head of Department Dr Charlie Bristow by May 10th .
