Event description

“If plan A didn’t work the alphabet has 25 more letters!”

At Birkbeck, Unviversity of London we appreciate that education isn't linear, and some of the biggest barriers to accessing university is confidence, especially around academic study skills. Things like note-taking, academic reading and critical analysis, to name a few.

Enter Plan B!

What is Plan B and is it for me?

Plan B is FREE programme for prospective students, designed to help boost confidence and develop transferable academic study skills. It consists of two parts, in one session:

  1. Interactive academic study skills workshop
  2. Taster lecture, to put into practice the academic skill just developed

What is this Plan B session all about?

6 – 6.45pm: Academic study skills workshop – Note taking

In this session, Richard Carabine, Learning and Development tutor within the School of Business, Economics and Informatics, will be covering:

  • preparing for note taking
  • helpful abbreviations for speedy note-taking
  • using different note-taking methods
  • effective note taking strategies for you

7 – 7.45pm: Taster lecture – “10 Things you need to know about Happiness”

  • which people and populations are happiest and happiness at work.
  • exploring the philosophical tradition of happiness, wellbeing and resilience and their relevance to people's lives today
