Department of Geography News Round-up

Time for a news round-up! 2016 has already been a busy year for the Department, with a number of exciting developments and achievements for us to shout about.

Congratulations to Sue Brooks, who has won an NERC award this year for her collaborative project on “Physical and biological dynamic coastal processes and their role in coastal recovery”. Sue is a PI in a consortium led by the University of Liverpool that is working on a project called BLUE-COAST, and the award is great news for Sue and the rest of the BLUE-COAST team. To add to that, Sue has also been deservedly been conferred with the title of Reader, so many congratulations to her for her hard work and dedication.

Continuing with the theme of promotions, we’re delighted to announce that Kate Maclean and Shino Shiode have both been promoted to Senior Lecturer. Shino has also recently completed her second PhD, this one from the University of Cambridge for a PhD in Geography entitled “Network-based Micro-scale Crime Hotspot Detection: Developing and Applying Spatial, Space-time and Geo-surveillance Methods for Micro-scale Crime Analysis” – well done to her!

And finally, Paul Watt has been made Visiting Professor at the University of Lille, which is great news for Paul and the Department.
