Programme structure

The foundation degree in Media and Business Applications is a flexible professional development programme, which offers advanced courses in media theory, multimedia, management and IT user skills. The aim is to enhance career progression by providing the underpinning academic and technical skill required by the highly competitive media industry.

You need to pass a total of 8 modules to gain the Media and Business Applications Foundation Degree. The modules are graded at undergraduate level 4 and 5. You take four modules at each level. In addition, throughout the Foundation Degree, all students take a Personal Development Planning module in each year.

Year 1 (starting January)

• Introductions: Learning to Look (Visual Arts and Media) (compulsory module)
• Introducing Multimedia (compulsory module)

On successful completion of the first year of the programme, students are required to select two pathways which they follow for the remainder of the course - one theoretical pathway and one practical pathway.

Year 2 (starting October)

• Management in the Media (compulsory module)
• One Theoretical Pathway (from Journalism, Cinema, Television, Cultural Studies or Documentary)
• One Practical Pathway (from Journalism, Screen-writing, Multimedia or Public Relations)
