2020 was a very challenging year for many of us with many people looking for new employment and/or facing change or uncertainty at work. A key part of searching for a new job is building a strong digital presence. This workshop will walk you through how to build a strong online personal brand using LinkedIn, giving you tips and advice on how to stand out from the crowd in a competitive job market.

 

Who is the session aimed at?


This session is primarily aimed at those with no previous experience of university, and those who have been out of the classroom for many years and are looking for their next move. It is designed to help you think about your skills and experiences, and how you communicate this to employers.

It is best suited for people who are currently in work but looking for other employment, or for people who have recently become unemployed and are looking for support for how to communicate their past experience.

 

What does the workshop cover?


Personal branding is about working out who you are and what you offer an employer . Your Personal Brand will help you share your story and build credibility

This workshop will give you tips on crafting a Personal Brand that will feel polished and authentic for you, helping you raise your professional visibility using LinkedIn.

  • Birkbeck Futures workshops are interactive sessions with a Q&A session and we encourage you to come prepared to ask questions and share your thoughts on the topics at hand.

What if I'm not confident with digital technology or don't have a computer?


We understand that it can be daunting to learn online especially if it's something you haven't done before. You may be worried that you won't be able to get onto the software we use to run the event or don't have the equipment to take part.

This session will be run using our virtual classroom Blackboard Collaborate, which can be accessed via smart phone, tablet or computer/laptop. You can watch a video introducing this online platform here.

We offer additional support for those who want some help accessing the event including the chance to be linked up with a digital mentor who can walk you through how to take part in the live session and the opportunity to practice using the software before the event. Please tell us about any worries you have about attending an online event when you sign up.

We will send an email containing the link to access the event on the morning of the session. On the evening of the event, we recommend logging in to the session 10 minutes before it starts to make sure your connection is working.
