Psychoanalysis Summer School 2018, organised by The Birkbeck Institute for Social Research and the Institute of Psychoanalysis, is a three-day event and this year takes place from 16th to 18th July at Birkbeck, University of London.

The Summer School focuses on an introduction to key concepts in psychoanalysis and will give students a unique opportunity to meet practicing analysts who will lead seminars and discussions about current topics in the field.

This event is open to everyone, including current undergraduate and postgraduate students from any discipline or background. You do not need to have any prior knowledge or experience of psychoanalysis.

Seminars and discussions led by practicing analysts on topics including:

  • What is psychoanalysis?
  • Child and adolescent psychoanalysis
  • Psychoanalysis and culture
  • Psychoanalysis and storytelling
  • Hysteria and the body in psychoanalysis
  • Psychoanalysis in psychiatry
  • Training as a psychoanalyst

On one of the days, there is also an optional film screening where you will watch the film and enjoy a psychoanalytic discussion afterwards.
