Get Started - October 2017 (Central Campus)

When:
Venue: Birkbeck Main Building, Malet Street

No booking required

Would you like to apply for any of our undergraduate degree courses? It doesn't matter if it's still just an idea or if you've found your dream course and want to know how to get a place, Get Started is for you!

Come along to this friendly, interactive workshop where members of the Widening Access team will be on hand to help you with the next steps.

The workshop will outline fees and funding, provide practical tips on writing an application and explain what will be expected of you as a Birkbeck student. The aim is to get you ready to start your application and we'll make sure there's plenty of opportunities to ask questions and chat to other people who are also just starting their journey to Higher Education.

The session is broken down into three sections with a break and refreshments provided between each one:

1. Preparing to Study

  • This section examines the benefits of higher education. We ask attendees to consider their personal motivations for studying, identify possible challenges and present realistic solutions, to help attendees prepare for university study.
  • We explore what is expected of students, and give information about Birkbeck Student Services; including study skills and disability support.
  • Finally, we support students to make an action plan as to what they need to do to ensure they hit the ground running when they start their course..

2. Student Fees and Finance

3. Making an Application

  • We appreciate that the university application process can seem daunting. This final session gives an overview of how to make an application to Birkbeck and offers practical advice to help prospective students demonstrate their experience and commitment to their subject.
  • The workshop is not subject-specific, and does not give feedback on individual personal statements, but aims to give prospective students the knowledge and technique to be able to produce a successful Personal Statement.

These free sessions are intended for applications for undergraduate degree courses only, not for postgraduate degrees. These events are not subject specific so we are unable to advise regarding individual entry requirements, but please be aware that an IELTS score of 6.5 or above is required for most courses if English is not your first language.

If you are unable to attend this event you may be interested in attending one of our other monthly Get Started events. Please see bbk.ac.uk/getstarted for future dates or email getstarted@bbk.ac.uk for more information.
