This course is designed to enable academic writers to improve their writing skills.
Using some of the principles of creative writing, this lecture, given by Julia Bell (Department of English and Humanities) will introduce the basics of good prose writing. It will consider what it means to develop confidence, vocabulary and accuracy and what it means to find your voice as a writer.
This introductory lecture will be followed by a series of four workshops to develop your craft as writers. The workshops will be led by writers Keith Jarrett and Golnoush Nourpanah in the Spring Term. Applications for the workshops will only be open to students who attended the lecture and who can commit to all four sessions. Spaces on the workshops will be limited to 12 people.

Developing Your Research Career is a series of seminars and workshops organised by the Birkbeck Institute for Social Research, and supported by the Birkbeck Graduate Research School, which aim to enhance the research skills and contribute to the career development of PhD students conducting social research at Birkbeck.
