Birkbeck's Big Ideas: What does the law have to say about brothers and sisters?

When:
Venue: University Square Stratford Campus

No booking required

What does the law have to say about brothers and sisters? What would you like it to say about them?!

Most people know and accept that law does and should have something to say about the relationship between parents and children and between spouses. But it probably comes as surprise for most people to discover how much law has to say about siblings. Love them and hate them: for most people their brothers and sisters are their longest relationship, and a complex one.

This talk, presented by Daniel Monk from Birkbeck's School of Law, will provide an overview of the law about siblings including new research about siblings in the public care system. Daniel's research has explored a wide range of issues relating to families, children, education and sexuality. He is currently undertaking research funded by the Nuffield Foundation about siblings in public law proceedings. For more information, see "Siblings, contact and the law: an overlooked relationship?"

Come and find out more . . . and join in a conversation about what you think the law should say!

This event is part of the Birkbeck's Big Ideas series of free public lectures designed to inspire and bring world class Birkbeck academics to the local community. Join us for the inaugural Big Ideas at Birkbeck's Stratford campus and come prepared for interesting discussion and fascinating research.
