When:
Venue: 639 Enterprise Centre

No booking required

Birkbeck's Big Ideas is a series of FREE events, designed to inspire and bring world class Birkbeck academics to the local community

The series will run every 2nd Wednesday of the month, from July to May 2017, with this instalment from Dr John Walker, Reader in German Intellectual History at Birkbeck.

This talk will explore the relevance of studying languages to understanding cultures and communication between different cultures and faiths. It will look at the relationship between language, culture and identity in our globalised world. Although the starting point will be the speaker's work in German studies - especially the contribution of German thought to the understanding of what 'cultures' and 'intercultural communication' really mean the talk will draw on a wide range of examples to highlight the relevance of language study to communication between cultures and faiths in the global world and city.
