Birkbeck's Big Ideas: Joy and Sorrow in Our Time with Professor Lynne Segal (Finsbury Park)

When:
Venue: External

No booking required

Join us for the inaugural Big Ideas at City & Islington College's Centre for Lifelong Learning, and come prepared for interesting discussion and fascinating research!

Birkbeck's Big Ideas is series of thought provoking FREE events, designed to inspire and bring world class Birkbeck academics to the local community, with this latest installment from Lynne Segal, Anniversary Professor at the Department of Psychosocial Studies, Birkbeck, University of London.

Joyful times are almost always dependent on some form of collectivity, while melancholy, and the rising rates of depression we hear so much about today, are essentially inward looking. The key ideas Professor Segal will explore suggest that you can never overcome sorrow without looking outwards, affirming our relation to the world, though we should also know that joy and sorrow are each inescapable, and need to be understood together.

The event is FREE and open to all, but please note that seating is allocated on a first come first served basis. Registration and refreshments start at 6pm and the talk will commence at 6.15pm. We look forward to welcoming you to this Birkbeck's Big Idea event!
