Research interests

• History of ideas (with an emphasis on 19-20th c. France)
• History of literature (has published on Gide, Stendhal, Zola, and the reception of Ibsen and English writers, such as Carlyle, Gosse, Browning and Wilde, in France).
• History of homosexuality (has published on Gide, Magnus Hirschfeld, and Genet; gender and sexuality in France, the Ancient World, Islam and Japan). Is currently writing on gay novels published in France in the 3rd Republic (1871-1914).
• The Classical tradition in France, specifically the history of the translation of Greek and Latin authors into French; the modern reuse of ancient myths; gender and sexuality.
