Seventy years of Franco-German film
The Department of European Cultures and Languages, School of Arts, Birkbeck, is celebrating its formation with a series of free film screenings.
All screenings take place on Fridays from 6-9 pm in room B36 in the main Birkbeck building, Malet Street.
- 16 October 2009: Jules et Jim (François Truffaut, 1962). Introduced by Dr Martin Shipway.
- 13 November 2009: Vampyr – Der Traum des Allan Gray (Carl Theodor Dreyer, 1932). Introduced by Dr Silke Arnold-de-Simine.
- 4 December 2009: La Grande Illusion (Jean Renoir, 1937). Introduced by Dr Eckard Michels.
- 15 January 2010: Le Silence de la Mer (Jean-Pierre Melville, 1949). Introduced by Dr Akane Kawakami.
- 19 February 2010: Querelle (Rainer Werner Fassbinder, 1982). Introduced by Dr Joanne Leal.
- 12 March 2010: Gouttes d’Eau sur les Pierres Brûlantes (François Ozon, 2000). Introduced by Dr Andrew Asibong.
All films will be screened in their original versions with English subtitles. Admission is free.
The event is organised with the support of the Goethe-Institut, London, the Institut Français, London, and the London Centre for Arts and Cultural Exchange.
