About Birkbeck Institute of Environment
Launched in 2006, Birkbeck Institute of Environment aims to bring together all the inter-disciplinary environment teaching and research activities being undertaken in the College. The first stage is to bring together all the undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development programmes together on the College web site for the first time. Over time, the goal will be to also create an interdisciplinary 'home' for all environment-related research which can be used as a resource by students, academics and policy-makers from outside the College.
Administered by Birkbeck's Department of Geography, Environment & Development Studies, the Institute of Environment involves a number of Birkbeck Schools and provides central administrative and student support for the College's environmental programmes.

Aims
To promote interdisciplinary research and teaching of the highest quality in Birkbeck programmes relating to the environment, and to act as a liaison body within Birkbeck schools and with current and prospective students.
In promoting interdisciplinary teaching, the Institute of Environment web site aims to enable more students to undertake the programmes by making the educational experience more manageable and effective.
About Birkbeck
Birkbeck is the only university college in the country wholly given over to part-time teaching to degree level and beyond. Our students are from an extraordinarily broad range of backgrounds and are of different ages. You will benefit from the specialised experience of teachers who are sympathetic to the particular needs of part time students. You will be taught by academics who are leading experts in their fields. Birkbeck has a very strong reputation as one of the leading research institutions in Britain, where teaching and research complement each other.
