Research training and support for MPhil / PhD students
We actively foster the creation of a graduate intellectual community and our students' professional development. A large number of our recent PhDs have successfully obtained permanent academic posts in leading universities in Britain, the United States and other countries:
Research training
- We run sessions on research skills every year, and all new MPhil/PhD students are required to attend them throughout their first year. See this year's research skills training schedule for more information.
Graduate Theory Seminar Series
- We host the Graduate Theory Seminar Series and Graduate Lecture Series as a regular intellectual and social occasion for graduate students and staff.
Seminar and reading groups
- We run an extensive range of research seminar and reading groups. Graduate students have themselves set up reading and discussion groups and organised seminars with both internal and external speakers.
Additional help and support
- Students work closely with their academic supervisor, but are also assigned a second member of academic staff within the School in the role of a personal ‘mentor’.
- We also provide a room which research students can use for meeting, seminars and private study.
