Collaborations

Since 2010 I have been an Associate of the Centre of Excellence in Political Thought, Christina Institute for Gender Studies, University of Helsinki; and since 2006 a Research Affiliate at the Centre for the Interdisciplinary Study of Sexuality and Gender in Europe (CISSGE), Exeter University.

I am part of the AHRC-funded research network ‘Havelock Ellis & Co’, led by Dr Jana Funke, Wellcome Centre for the History of Medicine, Exeter University.

I am currently leading a project on Sexology and Translation: Scientific and Cultural Encounters in the Modern World, 1860-1930. Funded by the Wellcome Trust, an international interdisciplinary group of experts from literature, history, cultural studies, sociology and politics met at Birkbeck to explore how issues of translation shaped the development of modern sex research in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Over the course of two days, participants uncovered new networks and avenues of exchange between science and culture and between the ‘West’ and the ‘East’ during a period of major global transformations.
