New Macmillan book deal for Julia Bell

Julia Bell, Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing, has a book deal with Macmillan for her new novel The Dark Light.

Julia Bell, Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing, has a book deal with Macmillan for her new novel The Dark Light.

The Dark Light will come out next May (2015) along with a reissue of an updated version of her first novel Massive, which describes three women in the same family tussling with their problematic relationships with food and each other.

The Guardian review of Massive said, ‘Bell comes at her subject with a clever obliqueness, using the dislocated experience of the strange city to reflect Maria’s and Carmen’s fixations on food. A small chink of hope at the end suggests that Carmen will break the vicious circle and that the legacy will not be passed on.’

Julia comments on her recent deal, ‘It's a huge honour to get to update an old novel and it's been an interesting and rewarding experience revisiting and revising something I wrote years ago. I am writing a new book too - as yet untitled and will be taking some time out to work on and research it in Germany this Summer. Hopefully this will come out in 2016.’ You can follow Julia on Twitter to keep up-to-date with all her writing projects.

Julia Bell teaches on the BA Creative Writing and MA Creative Writing programmes and is the project director for the bustling Writers’ Hub.
