Conference to explore influence of the Victorian, WT Stead, on the modern tabloid.

Event description

Birkbeck professors, Roger Luckhurst and Laurel Brake, will join over 40 speakers at this centenary conference looking at the influence of William Stead, one of the inventors of the modern tabloid. His expose of child prostitution raised the age of consent to 16, yet got him thrown in jail. This conference will examine Stead’s influence on the last century of journalism, and look at how digital technology will shape the next.
