Economics research

Our academics and PhD students conduct cutting edge research in key areas - econometrics, macroeconomics, and microeconomics.

Our research benefits from existing research centres, the Birkbeck Centre for Applied Macroeconomics and the Centre for Finance and Commodities, which facilitate interactions with external academics, policymakers, our current and former PhD students.

Research in the school must pass our research ethics process.

RESEARCH PROJECTS AND news

OUR COMMUNITY AND COLLABORATIONS

School members have a large network of academic collaborators in the UK and abroad and several are affiliated to international research networks such as the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), CESifoKiel Institute for the World Economy and IZA.

In the public sector, staff work with various organisations including the IFS, UK Regulators Network, Competition Commission/Competition and Markets Authority, the OECD, the Bank of England and the Bank of Spain. Collaborations with the private sector include KPMG, NERA, Frontier Economics, Smithers and RBB Economics.

We engage with diverse communities. The Birkbeck Economics and Finance Society is an active student-run society with the aim of sharing knowledge and networking opportunities.

RESEARCH CENTRES AND NETWORKS

Our academics and researchers work together via a wide range of research centres, networks, groups and societies. These cut across schools, subjects and areas of expertise, to encourage and enable innovative, interdisciplinary research.
