The current 3 year agreement for the licence and hosting of Blackboard expires soon. Therefore the the Colleges within the BLE are evaluating option for the future.
The BLE Steering Group is committed to retaining the existing collaboration / shared service, and would hope collectively to be able either to agree to retain the hosted Blackboard platform (upgrading to version 9.1 in 2012), or moving to a hosted Moodle solution in 2012. Each of the BLE Colleges is carrying out its own internal consultation with staff.
The Birkbeck consultation is being undertaken via the representatives of the TEL Working Group. As part of the exploration of the virtual learning platform Moodle, the BLE organised a consultation event on 25th March 2011 for teaching and support staff across the Bloomsbury Colleges to come and hear how other institutions are making use of Moodle.
