The Student Experience High Level Plan mentioned under section 11 that the College is exploring "approaches [...] that also contribute to the delivery of more flexible modes of provision". Elluminate can help to achieve this.
Birkbeck recently purchased a licence for Elluminate which allows life collaboration online. The Building Block has been installed and tutors can now use Elluminate within their Blackboard courses. If you are interested in a demonstration please get in touch with Peter Leffek.
Currently distance courses at Birkbeck mainly facilitate asynchronous tools for student participation and collaboration. Elluminate Life! enables synchronous communication and collaboration online. Please visit the Elluminate website for for information.
Elluminate consists of four different components:

- Elluminate Life!
- Elluminate Publish!
- Elluminate Building Block
Prior to a synchronous session the content and activities can be prepared in advance (similar to a lesson plan) with Elluminate Plan! After the recorded live session, the content can be published with Elluminate Publish!
