Original event details

Dr Lucy Mathers, who is a Senior Lecturer in the Media Technology Department at De Montford University, is giving a seminar on a project relating to e-learning with which she has been involved.

Title: Facilitators and Barriers to Developing Online Learning Communities

During the seminar Lucy will outline the work of a project undertaken to find new ways to engender a deep learning approach and to enrich the student learning experience through the use of technology. The project used Blogs and Wikis within a Virtual Learning Environment to develop online learning communities within modules.

Lucy will present the main findings of the study, in terms of the facilitators and barriers for both staff and students to developing online learning communities in this context. The study found that many staff have interactive group work and reflective components currently embedded within their teaching, yet are unsure of the pedagogic use of the technology.

During the seminar you will have the opportunity to discuss ways you could utilise technology in a pedagogically sound way by examining models used in current learning, teaching and assessment activities.
