The Bloomsbury Learning Environment or BLE is Birkbeck's centrally supported virtual learning environment (VLE), and is used extensively throughout the college's five new schools. We previously used the Blackboard CE6 (formerly WebCT) environment but in the autumn term of 2008 Birkbeck joined with four other Bloomsbury Colleges (IOE, SOAS, LSHTM and RVC) in using a shared Blackboard (Academic Suite) environment, located at www.ble.ac.uk. |

Logging in and getting started
Accounts:
- Birkbeck users log in to the BLE using their normal ITS username and password.
- If you are having login problems, please change or recover your password (allow one hour after completing this form, and then try to log in again). If this hasn't resolved the problem please contact the ITS Helpdesk.
Support:
- Students, please download a guide for new users entitled General Information about the BLE - for more detailed information you can also visit the Support Wiki (also accessed via the BLE Support Tab) or run the Learning module.

Browser:
- Blackboard usually works successfully with any reasonably up-to-date web browser (if using Firefox, please use version 3; for Internet Explorer we recommend version 7 or 8).
