Ives was a prolific diarist, amassing over 100 volumes written between the ages of 19 and 82, shortly before his death. These extracts from volume 24 sample some of the entries from May to October, 1895 showing Ives’ responses to the trial of Oscar Wilde and Wilde’s conviction, as well as to Max Nordau’s book, Degeneration.
