Study in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences

Our department has an excellent track record in research and innovation in teaching. Current research projects include working on volcanoes in North Korea, earthquakes in Italy and hominid evolution in South Africa. We are also involved in the latest planetary missions such as ESA's Rosetta mission.

We have been delivering lectures in London since 1840, always with a focus on providing an accessible environment for everyone. This led us to embrace online education in the late 1990s meaning we offer a flexible approach to learning. You can take our Geology (accredited), Earth Sciences, Environmental Geology and Planetary Science with Astronomy degrees, and also our undergraduate and postgraduate certificates, through attending classes in London, completely online from anywhere in the world, or through a mixture of the two.

Within these degrees there are plenty of chances for fieldwork, with trips to Wales, Scotland, Greece and Morocco.
