Guidance for prospective MPhil/PhD students

Research in the Department of Biological Sciences builds on the strong foundations laid by JD Bernal, a pioneer in X-ray crystallography. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), in a joint submission with UCL, Biological Sciences at Birkbeck were ranked 11th in the UK, with a research environment supporting world-leading and internationally excellent research. 

You will benefit from the shared research resources of Birkbeck and UCL, primarily through the Institute of Structural and Molecular Biology, a world-leading centre of structural and molecular biology.
