Coming to Birkbeck has sent Michael in a whole new direction:
'Little did I realise, when I started a BA in Film in September 2001 at Birkbeck, that seven/eight years later I would be attending academic conferences, presenting papers to famous professors of film, teaching film studies and interviewing filmmakers.'Did I really walk through the doors of the BFI seven years ago, ready for the start of my first experience of higher education after 19 years of full-time work? Yes, without a doubt.
'At times the path has been rocky, and I've often thought about straying, but here I am working on a PhD and tentatively dipping my toes into the world of grown-up academia’.
Michael has taught the following courses for the Certificate in Film: 'Modern American Cinema' and 'Supermen and Dark Knights: Anime, Comic Books and Film'.
