When Jeannette discovered Birkbeck’s dance programme, she was elated:
'I had always enjoyed and participated in dance, but thought it was too late for me to pursue it as a career.'Birkbeck fitted in with my lifestyle. It provided me with an affordable point of entry into formal dance education, and a solid foundation for a professional career in dance.
'Dance at Birkbeck is accessible, engaging and creatively challenging. It was great to have teachers who were actively engaged in the sector. I really valued the chance to share my artistic journey with the other students on the course, some of whom I have worked with on creative projects.
'I went on to do postgraduate study in dance, and I am now Director of the Association of Dance of the African Diaspora (ADAD), a national dance organisation.
'The knowledge and skills I gained at Birkbeck have given me the confidence to pursue my passion for dance and to transform this passion into professional success.'
