My work focuses on understanding cultural producers (artists and crafters) and their practice. In particular, I am interested in constructions of cultural value and artistic identity as placed in the interface between cultural policy and arts management. I am a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Film, Media and Cultural Studies in the School of Arts, and teach on and direct the MA in Arts Policy and Management.

My first book Artist’s Voices in Cultural Policy, Careers, Myth and the Creative Profession after German Unification, was published last year by Palgrave Macmillan/Springer. I am currently developing a new project Weaving your way through the blockchain, investigating cultural value creation among the weaving community through provenance. This project is seed-funded by the Birkbeck Innovation Fund.

In my previous professional experience, I was working as a cultural producer in Germany, Austria and the UK managing a variety of small and large-scale interdisciplinary community arts projects.
