Pauline Greene

Pauline teaches Staging Music Events and Festivals, and co-teaches Arts and Media: An Introduction, and Performing/Live Arts: Histories, Networks and Organisations.

Pauline studied composition at Nottingham and then composed, performed and was Musical Director for touring and studio theatre. She taught flute and composition and performed her music across the UK at various venues, including the South Bank and the Edinburgh Festival, with her group The Concert Party, which she managed and directed. She came to Birkbeck in 1984 and was Associate Lecturer, Course Director and Award Coordinator in Music, as well as teaching dancers about various kinds of music at London Studio Centre. She has been External Examiner for the Universities of Middlesex and Hertfordshire. She now teaches music at City Lit and the University of Hertfordshire, and Arts Management modules at Birkbeck and Goldsmiths. She gives talks at the Royal Opera House, the Wigmore Hall and Glyndebourne.

She is still involved in the organisation of small-scale charity concerts and one-off musical events. Her research focus is on hearing and listening, and composition. She sings and plays with several small groups.
