Professor Lance Pettitt

Professor Lance Pettitt is an Associate Lecturer in Film specializing in the cinema and cultural history of film in Ireland. At Birkbeck he teaches on the MA Screen Writing degree and the BA English Literature programme.

He has held visiting professorships at the Universities of Vienna (2016 and 2017), Sao Paulo (2010) and Barcelona (2008). His publications include Screening Ireland: Film and TV Representations (2000), December Bride (2001) and an archive-based DVD: Thaddeus O’Sullivan: Early films, 1973-1986 (IFI, 2014). He is the co-editor of ‘Ireland into Film’, a bilingual critical edition series of Irish screenplays/subtitled DVDs with four titles, including The Uncle Jack (2011), The Woman Who Married Clark Gable (2013) and The Road to God Knows Where (2016).

Lance is a Board member of the Irish Film Festival London (IFFL) and his other festival curation has included Culture Ireland-funded festival events in Brazil (2011, 2013, 2016), Argentina (2014), Norway (2015) and London (2016).
