Katja Nyqvist, BA, MA
Contemporary technique
Katja Nyqvist gained her initial dance experience in Finland later graduating from Laban. Katja is an experienced dance artist and performer and has worked with a variety of choreographers and companies, including Korsnes Kompani, MIKS, Transitions Dance Company, Sarah Michelson, Thomas Hauert, Athina Vahla, Vera Nevanlinna and Marianne Rouhiainen touring the UK and abroad.
Katja has taught at Laban, the Place, Goldsmiths College and currently, she is a Lecturer at Roehampton University teaching Choreological Studies, improvisation, release and Graham=2 0based technique.
Katja is a member of the Laban Consultation Unit directed by Valerie-Preston Dunlop and she has also studied somatic movement with Katy Dymoke and Mark Chandlee Taylor on the Embodied Performing Arts Program (2008) and participated in Body & Earth training with Andrea Olsen and Caryn McHose (2009). Katja’s practice-based research explores the perceived and embodied spatiality of performance.
Recently, she has collaborated with composer/cellist Jacob Shirley (Six Litres of Air 2007, Me Machine 2008) investigating the connection between tonal and spatial harmony.
