After taking a degree in Classics at Edinburgh University and teaching at St Paul’s Girls’ School in London, Hazel Wood studied Singing with Winifred Radford at the Guildhall School of Music. She pursued her interest in French song and Lieder with intensive study with Pierre Bernac and Gerhard Hüsch.
She began her professional career with the BBC Singers and subsequently performed internationally as recitalist, oratorio soloist and ensemble singer, broadcasting frequently also for the BBC in Scotland and for France Musique.
Her operatic experience includes two seasons at Glyndebourne, a two-year principal contract at the Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing in France, and such roles as Dido, Sesto and Cenerentola for various companies in Great Britain.
She now devotes most of her time to teaching, both privately and as a member of the professorial staff at Trinity College of Music. She is much in demand as an adjudicator and master class tutor, and has served two terms as Chair of the Association of Teachers of Singing.
