Akane Abe, BA

Contemporary technique

Akane was born in Japan, completed a BA in Sport Science at Chukyo University and subsequently taught aerobic and jazz dance before moving to Europe. She trained in mime theatre in Helsinki with Adam Darius 1995-96 and then undertook fulltime training at the London Contemporary Dance School 1996-99.

On completion of full time school she was invited to join Dance Company "Genau" performing and directing dance pieces in England, Germany and Japan. She is also a qualified Pilates teacher.

As well as teaching for technique for Birkbeck, Akane also teaches contemporary dance at The Place, Kensington and Chelsea Collage, and Pilates at City and Islington College, the Laboratory and Yogahome.

Since 2000 she has been invited by Shiho Kanazawa Dance Company to teach and perform in Japan every summer.
