Current research interests

Italian film noir; the European film and media industries, quality cinema and the assignment of critical ‘value’; various aspects of popular European cinema; the cinema of Francesco Rosi and Franco Zeffirelli.

Mary's current research will result in a chapter on the effects of the internet on Italian cinema in Frank Burke (ed): A Comparison to Italian Cinema (Blackwell) and a chapter on genre theory and Mario Bava's cinema in Peter Bondanella (ed): The Italian Cinema Book (British Film Institute). Both to be published 2012-13.
