In October 2015, as part of the London Film Festival, a panel of critics visited the Birkbeck Institute of the Moving Image to discuss how professional film critics approach their work.

In October 2015, as part of the London Film Festival, a panel of critics visited the Birkbeck Institute of the Moving Image to discuss how professional film critics approach their work and gave tips on reviewing and focusing on their different audiences, whether online or in print. Panellists included:

  • Anna Smith (Chair, UK Critics’ Circle Film Selection ELLE UK)
    Anna Smith is Chair of the UK Critics' Circle Film Section and Contributing Editor at ELLE UK.  She’s a regular writer and broadcaster for a number of outlets including Metro, Sky News, BBC, Empire and The Guardian.
  • Naman Ramachandran (journalist)
    Naman Ramachandran is a journalist for Variety, Sight & Sound, and Cineuropa, and one of the co-founders and programmer for the London Indian Film Festival.  He is also the author of several books on Indian cinema, including Rajinikanth: The Definitive Biography (Penguin, 2012) and Lights Camera Masala: Making Movies in Mumbai (IBH, 2006).
  • Corrina Antrobus (freelance film journalist)
    Corrina Antrobus is a freelance film journalist and regular contributor for Virgin Movies, the Huffington Post, and The F Word. She’s also creator of the Bechdel Test Fest, a celebration of films that pass the test and succeed in representing women in a positive and progressive light.
